Does anybody load for the .25-284?
I have a Sako custom in this round and am having trouble with the necks splitting after 1 or 2 loadings. Any loads or experiences with this cartridge will be welcomed.
have you tried to anneal the necks BEFORE the first loading? I am assuming you are necking down 284 brass to .25. this can harden the brass. Also what dia is the "lead" area of the chamber? When you neck brass down ,it often thickens the necks and needs turning.Seat a bullet and measure the neck diameter. This should equal the .257 bullet and about .0125per side.Which is .284.
With no info to go on I can only guess, BUT, I assume that you have a tight necked chamber and have to turn your case necks. If so my guess is that you are turning your case necks to thin. I like .002 of expantion when the round is fired. The more your case necks expands when fired the shorter the life.
I load for a Sharps and a Marlin Guide Gun and a Ruger #3. I have some Montana bullet works 330 Gr. HP GC (a take of the Gould bullet) . They also now have a Montana bullet works 320GR, HP-GC and they discontinued the 330 gr.. Has any one use either and will to share load data?
