A friend gave me a bag of them he bought from EABrown that he couldn't get to group in his gun. I have not had the time to play around with them yet but am also interested to see if anyone besides my friend has had trouble getting them to group. :?

Wrong forum, try the Africa Hunting forum.

22 caliber sabots in a 30-06 might hit a coyote at 25 feet, but at 100+ yds good luck hitting anything smaller than an Elephant, if you DO hit a Coyote it will sure wake him up, half of the bullets are going sideways at 25 yds. I would sure hate to get hit with a bullet going sideways 4000 fps.

30-06/22cal sabots

a couple of years ago i bought some sabots from J&D components out of utah. And to tell you the truth i was impressed with them. accuarcy was as good as the 110gr V-maxs(1-1.5 MOA) i was using at the time, without the recoil. I was get about 3800 fps. the only problem was the poorer quality bullets I was using. The best group it managed was about 3 inches. once i changed to a higher quality(speer match, V-max or Calhoons ) the group size shrunk dramatically. I also found that the heavier bullets(55-60gr) grouped better. Now however i've got a dedicated varmint gun a remington 700 with the synthetic stock 24'' barrel in 22-250 and a 6-24x "tactical"scope and a Harris bipod . so my old winchester model 70 30-06 has been retired to the gun safe, for the time being. but i enjoyed using the sabots so well i plan to use them in my Norinco M-305(M14) 308win this winter for wolves, assuming that they're safe to use in semi-autos.

Sabots in 30-06

I purchased some sabots from JD components also. Loaded some in 30-06 and also in 308. Was not impressed with the accuracy obtained. Used good Sierra bullets (Blitzking) and some Remington 55 gr spts. Tried several different loads not much improvement. Also remember if your going to load ammo for that M-14 used mil style primers (M34??) so the recoil does not set off the others in your magazine.
