I have been working with a 338-06 AI for about 4 months now. I had a gunsmith in ND take one of my Remington 700 BDL's in 30-06 and make this wildcat. He used a 24 inch Montana Rifle Company barrel. He also free floated the barrell, glass bedded the receiver, lapped the bolt lugs, and trued up the bolt face. I have tried 200 grain Hornady sp interlock bullets and Speer 200 grain spitzer sp's and am currently using 56.0 grains of Varget. I am getting muzzle velocities of approximately 3150 fps with moa accuracy. I am going to test both of these bullets on deer ( I have 4 tags to use). Then work up a load with a different bullet for elk. I am loving this wildcat. At least with the 200 grain bullets it is giving me better ballistics than the 338 Win mag with less powder and less recoil. Expect recoil to be slightly more than the 30-06 with 180 gr bullets.
