I am about to purchase another barrel. I think I have my mind set on a .357 Max,but have been intrigued with the .41 for some time. In a 10" barrel with thoughts of using just iron sights..which would you go for and why?(If your only choices were between the two). Thanks guys..

Here in Ohio a pistol for deer hunting must be straight walled so, I purchased a 357 Max(14") and topped it with a Burris 1.5x4 for a back-up to my 45/70 .I loaded some rounds up on the max side to possibly use it some day on deer. It shoots extremely accurate with a max charge of H110 and Hornady 180gr XTP's. This year I loaned my 45/70 to my buddy to use while I went out of state and on the last day here after I got home I took out the MAX. 2 shots @ 100yds and 2 deer. I was impressed how well the XTP did! Dropped them both in their tracks. It so impressed me that it might be my 1st choice next year here in Ohio.

I have both in 10" tubes and like both. 357 Max. is more accurate and has a longer range but shells must be reloaded for it since Remington quit making factory stuff. Every deer I have shot with the 357 went about 60 yards on the average. Every deer I have ever shot with the 41 took no more than 5 steps.

If I had to sell one, I think I would keep the 357 Max. since it is a little more accurate and gets the job done. I do love the 41 though. Heck, I bought both you might as well too. Someone had two 41 mag barrels in the classified section last week. I would make him an offer if he still has them because they are hard to find.

 I have both barrels also & love them both. If I had to pick Id go with the41 mag. I have dropped deer with both none have gone more than 8 or10 steps. If you can go with both you can carry one as primary & the the other for quick. Both rounds are great

Well, you could get the .41Magnum barrel and have VVG run it out to .414SM. That way you could shoot the .414SM for big game or shoot the .41Magnum in the same barrel. Wifey couldn't complain about one barrel now, could she? :-D RKBA!

well sir,
In a 10 inch barrel the Maximum is a handful for me, it is a lot easier to handle in a 14. That being said, the versatility of the maximum with 180 grain Speer 35 caliber rifle bullets down to 140 grain hollow points loaded light you can use it for everything from rabbits to deer easily.
