Figured I'd put this here as I shoot nothing else in my Max. My hunting load is a RD190 PP with a stiff charge of A1680. Anybody played with lite loads in this caliber, specifically a 158gr which happens to be a BT style. Having promising luck with PP the boolit and using 2400, wondering if Unique would be useful. Haven't seen any info on this powder in this case, have plenty. Reason for all this is I'm probably gonna go in for repair of lower lumbar fusion plus extending the rods all the way up the lumbar area--gonna be moving slow for a couple of months. Had to convince my doc that I won't be shooting anything but nice slow target type loads. He also said deer hunting was out for this fall, little does he know I've got a helpful neighbor. GW

No experience with Unique, but I'm sure data can be found somewhere. I have used Trail Boss and heavy for caliber bullets with great accuracy. IIRC, 230gr lead boreriders liked 4gr and they shot almost into the same hole at 30yds. This is a slow load, but it gives your back a little exercise. Don't sit too long and get stiff, it's better to be a little active.

Are you shooting a pistol,(DW,Ruger, or T/C) or a rifle like a Handi? Best loads out of the DW's and Ruger's years back in silhouette shooting, was usually a max load of W296/H110 or 1680. 200gr. bullet. Not sure what might work out of a rifle length barrel. Buddy of mine tried down loading for his DW, at least out of his, groups sucked. gypsyman

Mine is a Ruger with 7.5" barrel and it shoots very well with 180 grain jacketed bullet and 20.0 grains of IMR 4227. That was my first load tried and it shot so well at all ranges - 25 yards to 100 yards, I never tried anything else.

Cartridges of the World shows a load for the 38 Ballard Extra Long which is basically the 357 Maximum case.

Max load of 6.0 grains of Unique under a 158 grain bullet. Makes a great plinker/small game load.

I also use IMR Trail Boss for a plinker load in my 357 Maximum. See IMR's website for trail boss load procedures
