The SB2 frame won't handle the breech thrust of the short mags due to the huge case head and high pressure, I tried a 300WSM with dismal results, way too much action flex. TC nor any TC Encore barrel manufacturer offers any short mag chamberings for the Encore which is stronger than an SB2. I don't know what pressure the 358 BFG operates at, but it would have to be less than the 65kpsi of the parent cartridge to work in an H&R, BFG doesn't list the H&R in their delivery system. I moved one of your other posts on this to the Indiana forum, it's been discussed there, but I don't know if it has on an H&R platform. Most members here use site sponsor Wayne York of Oregunsmithing for rechambers and reboring projects, it will cost about $300 for a rebore/rechamber or a stub, plus the donor parts cost. Personally, I'd opt for a 357Maximum if you want to stay with the H&R platform, it's a simple hand reaming of a 357Mag barrel, cost wise it's more practical. ;) http://357maximum.com/

No, the new frames required for them were never made, the Handi-Mags never got off the drawing board at H&R, were canceled in Jan 2008 prior to the SHOT show.

A guy who used to post here (HRAKONE?) rechambered something to a WSM, I think it might have been 30-30 to 300WSM. Within 10-20 shots, the barrel would no longer lock tightly when the action was closed.
Way too much 'bolt thrust' with that cartridge base size.

How big around is that IDC cartridge?

I dunno about anyone by that name, it's not in the member data base, but I have Handi35's old 300WSM barrel that he sold to Mac, it was a 308Win, he set the underlug back on it and sold the barrel for the cost of shipping to Mac, he sold it to me. Best I could do without flexing the internal action was 2900fps with 150gr loads, which is about 100fps slower than 30-06 velocities, the huge .555" case head is just too much for the internals of SB2 action. The .358BFG is based on the 25WSSM which has the same .555" case head.

I think Handi35 could have been his name here, it was something like HRAKONE on H&R Talk.

Was he in Alaska?

My ISP must have been caching this page when I replied to it, I didn't see any replies when I posted the first time.

Yes, he was in AK, I think he moved to Australia. You didn't see the replies because the OP posted that in several different boards here, I think the one you replied to was moved here from the Gunsmithing forum, I merged your reply with the thread that was here already!! ;D
