I PICKED UP A 1949 WINCHESTER IN 375 H&H. THE BORE WAS QUESTIONABLE AND PROVED TO BE A 5" AT 50 YARD GROUPER. I WOULD LIKE TO REBORE TO 458WIN MAG. BUT THAT WOULD ONLY LEAVE.100" OF WALL THICKNESS AT THE MUZZLE. IS THAT A PROBLEM? WHAT OTHER OPTIONS COULD YOU SUGGEST FOR ME. I HAVE A 416 HOFFMAN ALREADY AND WAS LOOKING FOR SOMETHING DIFFERENT. THANKS
That should be fine, as long as there aren't any dovetails or screw holes closer than .050" to the new bore. Check with Clearwater Reboring to see if they'll do it or not. I use them and really like their work. Recently I had them take a factory CZ 550 magnum from 375 to 416, and I rechambered it to 416 Remington. It's an absolute tack driver, with no copper fouling problems. Those boys do good work!
