I was at my local gun shop last nite shooting the bull.
they have one 2 of the uberti lever guns 45 colt carbine and 40-60 rifle ::)
that 40-60 1876 is really nice, dust cover, nice wood the whole works.
I am wondering if they will maybe come out with a 1886 in 45-70?
might meed wheels for a 1886 tho. the 1876 40-60 is pretty heavy,
what is the ammo avalibility like on the 40-60

Last I noticed, the 40-60 is strictly a handloading proposition.

Venturino and Ken W. both did writes up on it for the Lever Action magazine (special edition) put out by Rifle Magazine.

If you need more info let me know, I'll try to scan it and post it or send it to you.

Okay, I see that 10-X is making cartridges for the 45-60 so it is possible they will load the 40-60 if enough demand.

Last night I found an article by Steve Garbe in which the 40-60 was mentioned as a medium game rifle. The 1876 is a whole lot of rifle for such a dinky cartridge. Uberti needs to concentrate on the heavier cartridges that were chambered in this one.

Anyway, Garbe listed one smokeless load and then wrote that in his opinion that load was too hot for the 76 action.

Venturino mentioned how to form casings using the 45-70 as a parent cartridge.

About the 1886 in 45-70, Japchester has already done that. I don't imagine the italians will follow as the browning and winchester copies were not great sellers.

And you are correct about the weight, maybe if someone brought back the lightweight model at 7 1/2 pounds it would sell but that niche is being filled nicely by the Marlin 1895.

Let us know if you get the 76, I am sure we can come up with some loads for it.

I would check with Reeds Ammo. They are a GBO supporter and can make or get almost anything you may want.
