I know one persons load may not work at all in my barrel but i'll ask any way.i have a 14" barrel that will shoot jacketed bullets fair but hard cast will scatter every where.i have 500 of these 300 grain cast bullets that i would like to use.Anyone have any loads they might share.

wheelgun, my barrel is an SSK barrel, Mag-Na-Ported, it's very accurate with cast bullets. I use the RCBS 300 gr gas check bullet. Cast of wheel weights + 2% tin they weight about 330 gr. The powder is 42 gr of IMR 4198. If your barrel is the T/C barrel with the muzzle brake and your bullets are plain base, I don't know how that would affect accuracy. Sometimes barrels with muzzle brakes will not give accuracy with cast bullets. 8)

I have shot some 300 gr hard cast flat points with a gascheck with 29.9 grains of Alliant 2400. The load is good for practice and doesn't kill your hand like a full bore jacketed bullet load. I was shooting offhand at 25 yards and hitting the pastie target. I will have to bench it to see what it does.

the most accurate load I have is 51gr. of H4198, I also have a 14" SSK barrel, Mag-Na-Ported so I tend to load them hot, (yes even hotter than 51gr. and accuracy is still good) but 51gr. gives the best accuracy And I can tell no diff between cast and jacketed bullets asfar as groups.

handcanon, what bullet do you use with H4198? What is the velocity with the 51 gr. charge? I seen in the Hodgdon basic manual that the charge for h4198 is up to 55 gr., it would fill the case up more then IMR 4198. I would also like to try VihtaVuori N133. They list some impressive velocities in their Reloading Guide, while not exceedind 28,000 psi. 8)
