I have a video of yukon big game hunting, and a guy takes a HUGE brown bear with a .45 win mag auto. (head shot) after it started toward him when he was stalking it with a bow. I don't know what kind of pistol it was... anyone have any idea of what it was? why did this caliber not gain popularity? was it not needed becuase it did what others already would?

Cheers,

I was wondering if you have a link to the video so a person can see what kind of handgun this person was using. I know of three different companies that have produced a handgun in the 45 Win Mag. AMT made one in their Automag series, Wildey made one, and LAR Grizzly made one that looked like a 1911 on steroids. Other than that I personally do not know that much about the 45 Win Mag, only from what I have read which is not much.

Dan Wesson makes a revolver that chambers 45 win mag, 45ACP, and 45 auto rim. Nice gun. Power-wise, the 45 win mag is about the same as a 44 magnum. One problem with it is that there are relatively few bullets for it that are suitable for an autoloader.

it is a vhs tape that I have :? I have to look at it again to see, but I think it may look like a big bad 1911. Is that the LAR grizzly?

I'll get the exact name of the video, some of you guys are bound to have seen it! Thanks.

The video is
"Jack Brittingham's Ultimate Hunting for Alaskan Big Game vol. II

I think the gun looks like a 1911 with an extended barrel, but I can't get a great look at it. Anyone know anythign about it?

LAR Manufacturing

Hello,
I'd like to type a very long string of curse words regarding LAR but I'll let the reader make up their own.
LAR built the finest magnum autoloader extant!
Then the company completely dropped production and dumped their stock of spare parts to never be seen again, the parts that is!
There are thousands of LARs out here and no way to purchase parts to maintain the guns.
LAR dumped on it's loyal customers intentionally and without any warning.
