Thank you. This data and the hornady data is far apart. Hornady says its pressure max is 41.5k....

Tim could you run one of the accurate powders load in quikload and see what the starting and ending pressures are....thanks.

I've never been able to match tested data to QL predictions, it's usually in the ball park tho. The AA data isn't pressure tested as stated at the top of page and I expect Hornady's data is, AA's data is also in CIP, Hornady would be using SAAMI Piezo I'd expect.

As always, thank you. I just sat down with the math and worked out a 40k psi load. 87.3 gr of IMR 4831 is right at 40k.

So with that 25" barrel I should get 2100 fps with a 480 grain bullet. Not bad....

What is your thoughts on thrust? How much different will it be from a buffalo bore 45-70?

I'd use Hornady's start load and work up, you may find you don't like the recoil of those heavy loads long before you get the velocity you're expecting or the 40 kpsi pressure. :tango_face_wink:

Tim in an older post on thrust, these numbers came up....

45-70 at 40k 7359 lbs.
458 win mag 53k 6929 lbs.

So that 450 nitro should be in that ballpark...or am missing something.

Tim,

I did the math...the cva scout v2 comes in several calibers....here are the thrust numbers:

45-70 (at 40k) 8011.86 lbs
450 bushmaster 6765.09 lbs
444 marlin 7305.40 lbs
35 whelen 10848.42 lbs

So the 450 nitro at 8949.56 lbs should be ok?

Thoughts.....

Well Tom... like Tim I have a 450 Sharps Express and a 500 Sharps Express (AKA 45-120 and 50-140 Sharps) and while I know I could approximate their sister Nitro Express loads in the Handi, I just ain't a gonna do it! If I wanna feel that much pain it will be inflicted by a yum-yum in leather :tango_face_grin:

Hi-ebber, and day is always a hi-ebber, I will use the big 50 this deer season if I can work up an acceptable load with a 440 gr. cast bullet. :tango_face_wink:

If my calculations are correct, with the muzzle break it should have 28 lbs of recoil. That is down from 55.5 lbs. A 12 guage with 3" slugs is at 52 lbs.

Project is done. Will post video soon on the outcome. Started a new website about the 450 and reloading for it since there is not a lot out there.
