Hey guys I'm getting ready to load up my first batch of 45LC. Standard WW brass measures .458 and the 250gr Hornady XTP's are only .452. The bullet easily slides down in the case. I don't think I will have problems with the large magnum charges but with the smaller powder charges is there a trick to keep the seating/crimping die from nocking the bullet down into the case before crimping. I hadn't actually started loading yet, I just got home with the supplies and noticed the brass offers the bullet very little resistance from sliding down inside.

Thanks,
Toby

Recheck the headstamp on your brass! that can't be 45LC brass. You should have a interference fit between bullet and brass. KN

STOP!

whatever you have for brass can NOT be right! shouldnt even fit into you chamber. i aint got a clue as to what you might have for brass, but if it says 458 on it,i KNOW it isnt what you need to load 45 colt. stop here and get the right components before you go any futher.

Could it be that you have fired and not resized the brass yet?
Just a guess but we dont really know how much experence you have reloading. We could use more info. What does the headstamp on the brass read. Is it fired brass or new. Have you reloaded anything before or is this your first try.

Alright guys,

The .458 ID was wrong, sorry for the mistake, it is .455. These are WW 45 Long Colt brand new in the bag, never been fired. I can take the jacketed .452 250gr Hornady XTP and set in the unflared case mouth with ease. The bullet does have just enough resistance to hold it up. However, even the slightest little touch of the finger and down inside the case it goes. I'm getting ready to run them all through the sizing die and check again.

I was on the "fly" earlier, no time. Now that the little one is in bed and I have a little time.....well I need to get my butt off the iternet and start sizing.

Thanks again
