I bought a .460 barrel that I've been pretty happy with until recently. I had found a hand load that worked well (2" groups @ 100yds. through a holo-site w/ no magnification) and was practicing regularly with it in anticipation of the upcoming deer season and a Russian Boar hunt in December. I was practicing the day before Thanksgiving when my groups suddenly started stringing vertically. An inspection of the gun revealed a broken locking lug (correct term?) on the barrel. The folks at TC had already gone home but a gentleman at the factory confirmed that I could remove them from another barrel and replace the broken one on my .460. I did this and, unfortunately, the new ones lasted 6 rounds before the both sides fractured. TC's down for the holidays so using this barrel for the Monday deer opener is out. One other clue, when I mounted the Weaver base for the holo-site, I couldn't get it on paper. Long story short, I had to have a .030" taper machined into the base to get it into the adjustment range of the scope. Obviously, the centerline of the bore and the scope base mounting surface are out of parallel. I intend to contact TC when I return from hunting but am curious if anybody has either experienced this problem or has a clue as to what could be wrong. Thanks in advance for your help. - Mike Callesen

They break right in the corner where the large section containing the locking lug narrows to the thin sliding section. All three have broken in nearly the identical place.

I haven't heard of this either, T/C did have some problems with the 460 barrels, most of them being with the interior of the barrel, or chamber. Sorry can't help ya with this one.....good luck, let us know what developes from this.

I sent a fax outlining the problem to TC. I'm leaving for Ohio deer gun season today so I won't hear anything before Wednesday. I had hoped to use the .460 but I'll have to rely on the .44 Mag. Contender instead. Not too much of a hardship!
