Been looking mighty hard for a Marlin in .45LC to match my RV's. Found a NIB 20" limited edition one for $499 (best price, others just like this for $515). Also ran across a 24" one with an action job already done by the CAS champ of Virginia. Less than $400 and I think this is the way I'll go. Getting a few more pictures and then we'll haggle a bit.
Will give ya'll a follow-up post as time goes by (sounds like there is a song in there).

A heads-up, gonna buy a long gun off the in

I think you'll do fine. Most of the problem of buying this way is the recieving dealer. One place around here charges $50 per gun. Another $10 for the feds and 10% of the price paid. I found a guy that I go to his saddle shop anyway and asked one day (also a gun shop). $20 per transaction. I have gotten 3 guns at one time for $20. Nice guy. Even ships handguns for me at the USPS rate. UPS charged me $43 and the other FFLs around her want what I stated above to send also. Nice guy. Gets all of my local saddle business too.

Know a lawyer in Tomball, TX that will do the FFL transactions for $10 per gun--basically free as I see it. Others in the area range from $20--$30. Think I'll keep using the lawyer

Just to throw in my two cents here. One of the gun clubs I belong to participates in the CMP (civilian marksmanship program,I think?) and because you can buy guns through that program the club has an FFL and you can have them delivered there without the extra fee.

follow-up

Well, I did my typical stunt. Won the auction and then decided I wanted a lever actiion without checkering (the one up for auction had checkering). Turns out I was buying from a dealer so asked him if we could switch. He checked his distributer and found what I wanted. Costing me a few more $$ as the prices have gone up a bit (so what else is new), and will add a week or two more before I get it, but in the long run I know I'll be much happier with the switch.

all to say--be sure, very, very sure what the item up for auction is exactually what you want.
