Just wondering if anyone has been out for any late upland game hunting. I went with my wife's unlce over Christmas, we hunted for about 2 hours and shot our 6 roosters in NW Iowa around Ocheyedan. It was a beautiful day and a fun time, I unfortunately was caugh flat-footed without my trusty Citori, I had left it at home. He loaned me an 870 Express and I shot 3 for 3, had a good time shooting live pigeons with it later that day.

Quail

W TX is having the best quail year since at least '87. Abilene- Wichita Falls-Lubbock got 2x their usual rainfall. Last Sunday, 2 friends and I saw 30 coveys of wild bobs on a very well managed ranch while shooting our limits. Season lasts till Feb 23, but hunts are pricy($550/day, 2 hunters, 2 days). People come from all over the Deep South because they don't have any wild birds. Then they find out these aren't their old tame birds... Check it out some time. The Hailey ranch will be featured on ESPN Outdoors in a few months. Sorry for the late report, but I just found this site

Sound like similar scenario to South Dakota when out of state hunters come in and expect our wild birds to hold for the dog's point, stay where they are when they hit the ground wounded, and not to run in front of us in a cornfield. :) I hunt with lots of guys that will walk up on a point and try to flush and the bird is 50 yds. ahead of where the dog locked on point, found where the bird was, key word being was.
