i'm in law enforcement and have a significant supply of this ammo. i was wondering if anyone has ever used if for hunting. i've read about it on winchesters site and it states its a rapid controlled expansion bullet. i'm wondering how it will perform on a close broadside shot on small whitetails for a youth hunter at 40 yards or less.

anyone familiar with win. .223 55gr. psp ra

There has been numerous discussions on the merits/demerits of 223 on deer in the various forums. IMO a 223 is ok for an experienced shooter who will wait for the right shot or take a pass. For a rookie, I'd go with a bigger caliber. My own experience with a younger recoil sensitive shooter who is getting ready for his first deer season this year, and watching his shot placement at the range, tells me not to let him carry the 223. Instead he'll be packing his 7mm-08 loaded with 140 grains. If recoil is a concern at the range (it won't be in the woods), there are many good options to tame a rifle for smaller/recoil sensitive shooter.
