Hi guys, just got back from my spring beaver trip.Unseasonably warm weather shortened my trapping to just 6 days.Sunburn and windburn was not exactly what I had in mind. Will be taking my catch in tomorrow to sell.
Now I guess I will have to get the traps put away and start getting ready for the upcoming convention season.
Newt ---back in the old days many people ,would rather ride a horse.Than drive a Ford---be it model A or T. Tom

Hey Bog,
How'd ya do on the beavers? How many traps were ya running?

Are ya selling green or did ya flesh them as ya went.

Ive said it before but Ill say it again... The tip ya gave me a while back on letting beavers set for a few days before skinning really helped me out this year. Thanks again

Tim,I took 68 beaver in those 6 days.By the second day I had out about 4 dozen traps.A lot of the sets were on big lakes ,I leave these out the entire time. These are not as high a percentage set but take most beaver traveling through the area.
In the spring I sell my catch green,as I do not have the time to flesh and stretch. It is about all I can do to keep up with the skinning at this time.
I am glad you liked the tip on letting the beaver sit before skinning,it has worked well for me . Tom

Newt, unfotunately I was'nt one of them.I am my own pack horse, the only thing I pack in are 330s,stabilizers,stakes and Moundmaster. The only thing I pack out are beav and otter.I must say the packing out of the big rodents gets more interesting ,once you hit that half century mark. But I still was thrilled to see 5 beav in the 5 traps at one spot.It just takes me a tad longer to get them back to my truck.
Now a pack horse would come in real handy at these times, but like trappers--horses can be real ornery critters.Guess I will just keep packing em out--till they have to pack me out. Tom

Thank you MISTER Bogmaster, I thought you were a lot older. Say 75 or so ? I know what 330's are, and stablizers. But what is a MOUNDMASTER ? a Port-o-potty???

Newt, now porta potty is not in a trappers vocabulary--such words as trees
,bushes and maybe that big rock come to mind.
Moundmaster happens to be the name of my beaver lures:now I can see how you might become confused,as there is a Moundmaster#1 and Moundmaster#2.But let me assure you once you try them ,the only thing that will come to mind is --lots of beaver.
And as far is age is concerned--are'nt you within spitting distance of me in that category???? I can see we are going to have some good times at the conventions this year--you must buy the Pizza. Tom

How much $ did you get out of your beavers a piece in general? Where did you sale? At the fur auction here in KY they weren't doing to good. I heard them go as low as $4-$5. And that was fleshed and dried.

KYtrapper--I sold my spring beaver green for $11.00 each. Our unexpected warm spell not only curtailed my trapping ,it started the beaver on a early breakdown of pelt quality.
I have fall beaver and beaver I took in Mississippi on the next NAFA auction. But because of time restaints I sell my springers green. Tom
