I,m thinking of getting a 12 inch 256 MAX as a light carry gun. Should give me a little more power than the 256 mag to stabolize heaver bullets. I think the twist in a 256 mag is 14 but I'm thinking of maby 10 or 11 would be better. I would like to use bullets up to 100 gr or maby even 110 gr. If the 256 MAX is too light then it could be rechambered to 257 TCU.
Would a 1 in 10 twist be to fast for a gass check cast bullet in a quarter caliber?
Anybody out there with a 256 MAX or a 257 TCU? What is the twist and what bullet weights are you using?

I have a 256 Super Mag in a 16.5" Encore. Its sweet. I shoot 75gr Sierra's. Sometimes 60 gr Hornady's. Also had a 10" 256 super mag that was nice. Both barrels were 1-10 twist. Not sure but I think most barrels in .25 are 1-10.

Get the 1:10! The 1:14 is aggrivating to say the least. It works with up to 75gr. bullets (like the .256 was designed with) but really limits what you can use. It doesn't work very well at all with the 89gr. 25-20 cast bullets. If you want to shoot cast, make sure your barrel is throated for the bullet you want to use, seated to the base of the neck.
