I'm putting a set of bone grips on a Ruger, and just now after working the bone realize how porous it is. Is there anything I can use to seal the bone? I don't want a "plastic" appearance, but without a sealer I think they are going to look pretty bad after some use.

You could spray the grips with a clear laquer finish....should be available in a flat if that is what you want. Just try it on the inside surfaces first.

Yep, it's cow bone. Not real exotic but real available.
Thanks for the suggestions. I think I'll try both on some scrap I have and see how they look. I have quite a bit of scrap, my hands get to going faster than my brain and I've wrecked some of my early efforts.
