I have never been a big fan of Brass bead front sights. I like the F.A. fiber optic sight but wish that the optic was a little larger. I tried out a thought that worked out for me. I applied a drop of sprint white model car paint to the Brass face. It spread evenly and the edges of the bead are still brass colored. For my old eyes the bead not pops into view much quicker and crisper. If a person tried this and still prefered the brass color the paint could be easly removed with a Q-tip and paint thinner or acetone.

Am curious whether this was with the standard rear or the express V-notch rear??

I am currently using the square notch. I have an express sight to try out also.

I have gone back & forth between the Express rear blade and the square notch. I have a express rear assembly but you can slide out and replace just the blade. With the Bead or Fiberoptic front I just get a better & cleaner sight picture using the square notch blade. For my eyes it is more price and quicker to center the bead within a square rather than balance it on top of the shallow V express rear.

since I was more used to the square notch rear than the express I found it easier to use the square notch... I also found my consistency was better with a replacement front square bead with undercut front plane from Ken Oneil.
I still have the express and if I was to be using it in a short range shoot fast situation, then I would put it back on, but I just could not get used to the round bead front with either rear; the bead was not crisp looking enough for me to have repeatable results I could have learned it I am sure, but not as fast as I wanted it to happen. MY groups tightened up immediately with square front and rear sights.. but 25 years of those sights on my pistols could have something to do with it.
