Just found this site..great!!
I need a caliper. Chrismas present was RCBS master reloading. Any suggestions on good caliper would be helpfull. Until I read Varmint Al's and several of the links, I had no idea how interesting reloading could be.
Any and all suggestions on other reloading equipment, or links are really helpfull. I will be reloading for 30-06 Remington pump+Ruger bolt,
.223 TC, 7mm-08 Remington 700, 44mag Ruger Super red, 30-30 win. lever and a couple of others as time permits...I may have to quit my job.
NAWW...I'll just sleep less!
Thank you

reloading calipers

check www.midwayusa.com , they usually have stainless dial calipers for around $20, and digital for around $40. i do fine with the regular set.
check out www.stevespages.com theres lots of reloading data there. another good idea is to contact sierra, hornady, and hodgdon by e-mail they can recommend specific loads for each caliber. they have tech-services just for that. another good idea is to read and reread, and reread more than one loading manual. :D
Reloading

jvbigo,

You may need a "small base" sizing die for that .30 '06 pump gun. Most of the time a regular set of dies will not work reliably with pump and auto rounds as the guns just don't have the camming action of bolt guns, The SB resizing dies squeeze the base of the brass just a bit smaller. When ordering your dies, just look or ask for small base. O.K.?

About the caliper..I just ordered a digital caliper from e-bay (look under reloading). The outfit is selling/auctioning them for 24-25 dollars.

I also bought my dial calipers on eBay.

Use caution on eBay! Know what the value is of what you are buying...some deals are truley great deals and some are ablsolutly not.
I find myself checking ebay and then midsouthshooterssupply.com or midwayusa.com.

Be sure to get carbide pistol dies.

Have fun.

calipers and other reloading equipment

attend the local gun showsaround you you may be able to pick-up some of the reloading needs used, make out a list of your want and needs with the prices of the new ones plus shipping so you will have a guide to go by when you go and you will be aware of what you should be paying. :D JIM
I have two pair of the dial calipers from Midway and they work great. I have been thinking of trying out their electronic model though.
Where ever you get them though make sure and get a stainless steel pair dont bother with the plastic ones. They came out when all of the stainless ones were expensive but now you can get stainless for about $20.
