I think the green will look OK when it is all together. What type of paint are you using?
Oil base primer for all wood and metal after I grind all rust off and repair. Oil base black for all metal parts. Top quality latex for wood that is premiered already

There is also a yellow oil base used for some bling type parts.

Besides some touch up paint, pretty much done. Kinda realized when I was done it kinda looks like a John Deere cannon, or a VW hippie van. Anyhow, it was a lot of fun going through it. Maybe I will get another cannon down the road I would feel comfortable shooting.
Any ideas for protecting the vent hole and barrel opening in the elements?? I plan on displaying cannon outside. Thanks

Project is officially completed. Here is where the cannon will be displayed in my yard. This is my young longhorn Wellseley posing with the cannon. I have decided not to shoot it due to concerns with barrel. Was way to much work to risk damaging it. I will check in occasionally . I intend to buy another cannon that I can shoot down the road. Maybe a year or so and when I do, I will check the site to see who has what

Jack, first I like your avatar. Gonna have to steal it. I agree once I started looking specifically at 1857 Napoleons, but, still those pesky wheels on the back. Those may have just been some extra frill added by whoever put this cannon together.
That's fair!.. I stole the avatar from a FB meme...

What a great job, looks great .

I just went back and read the whole post. I was on a cruise when you started the thread. Lots of interesting things in here.

Your question about small wheels on the end of the trail. Here is my guess. One man owned and operated this gun, and the small wheels made it easier for him to move it around.

I believe the original owner fire this gun with blanks. But given the amount of deterioration you have found, you have mad a good decision, to not fire it.

Again well done.
