I got an elastic cartridge holder that goes over the butt stock for Christmas, but it will not fit my Encore. Which one is every one here using? I would like to get one that fits on to my butt stock. The one I got, just will not stretch enough to fit it.

Shell Holder

Actually, I prefer one that holds only two or three spares and fits on my left wrist (I'm right handed). That way the cartridge is right in front of me when I break the action, remove spent case, slip one out and chamber. With prectice it's nearly as fast as lading my bolt action.

I use the same system as Cossack. I am also right handed and took a regular shell holder and sewed it on the fore arm of the right sleeve on my hunting jacket. I open the action with my right hand and load and unload with my left.

I use both methods mentioned so far. The one I use for my buttstock is made by Beartooth. It holds 6 shells and is made out of a neoprene material which makes for a comfortable place for your cheek on the buttstock. I also had to put it on from the front.

I've got one made of neoprene that holds nine rounds and has a cover flap. I looked all over it for a tag - no luck. I don't have any idea of the manufacturer, but if it's any help I bought it at Sportsman's Warehouse. I also have the two-cartridge wrist strap, but I use that more when my Encore is set up as a pistol.

I have tried nearly all the methods mentioned here as well and still don't have a favorite. I like the idea of the extra rounds being on my gun. That way if I have my gun I have my bullets. I did buy an elastic forearm holder but the dang thing cuts off the circulation to my hand when I put it on. I think it is from Uncle Mike's and holds six shells? Right now I have a Butler Creek sling that holds 4 shells and it is working OK for me. Just don't bang them on the rail of your stand or the deer will leave......................fast! Been there.

Sorry for not replying back earlier, but I have tried what Thoms said, and it will not strectch enough to go over my scope putting on from barrel first. I have even tried it on a few other guns with slimmer stocks, and it will not fit them either. I guess I will look for one that goes on your wrist.

Tom and all,

What you said will work, of course. Not thinking and needing to change to my stock anyway, I just removed the stock bolt and put it on as you said. Being left handed, I installed mine upside down with the loops to the left and cut a small hole for the sling stud.

Mine is the Beartooth neoprene mentioned above and it helps quieten the hollow plastic stock as I hope it would.

I remove the butt stock from frame to install from the small end. Butler Creek 6 bullet holder with flap . I have lost bullets with non flap type. I also cut a hole to go over sling stud to hold shell holder in place. 2nd I use a Butler creek sling that holds 6 more, add a few in my front pocket and I have 14 bullets with me. Note... do not leave bullets in nylon shell holders for long period of time as they stretch out and bullets become lose.....

Here's my thought/idea on quick follow-up shots with my Encore. I'm trying to find some kind of rubber or molded 2-cartridge holder that I could drill a small hole in the bottom, then put a lanyard style fabric necklace through the hole and wear it around my neck (hanging about chest level). It would provide 2 extra rounds within immediate access for follow-up shots. Now just to find the raw materials.

Leather Laceup

If you're willing to spend some cash, try a custom made leather lace-up from Tex Shoemaker and Son. I made a pattern out paper and sent it to them saying I wanted a 3 shot holder for my 12 gauge Encore slug gun. I drew the area I wanted the shells to be located at (towards the top) and they made it to my exact specs.
It cost around $70. Very nice and a very unique Encore accessory.

Take the stock off, put the holder on the bolt the stock back on. It will never fall off.

I made a six round holder that fit on my right forearm, used Velcro to snug it up. Worked great until I got to a thick ravine that I thought might hold something, picked up a rock and chucked it, just as I let go of the rock I see a bunch of shinny brass things flying through the air, every round on my sleeve slid out and flew everywhere, had to be careful the rest of the hunt, the elastic is strong enough to keep the rounds from shaking out but inertia can make them fly.

I use a bear tooth neoprene holder for 2 rounds that goes around the forearm of the rifle, by the front scope bell. Convenient, doesn’t smack around on other thin and I can use my 30-06 or 45-70 shells on it. I suppose it was made for the wrist now that I read others here, but it would be like a tourniquet on my wrist with any sort of jacket under it.

I found a used one at a garage sale that has a velcro closure. You could get velcro and custom make your device. I may modify mine to include a cover after reading about people losing rounds from theirs.

I sewed a bullet holder inside my hand muff. It's not fast but if they fall out they're in the muff. If your muff had the front zippered pocket you could see it inside pocket and be able to zip it up
