We sure do think a like I just bought one today. With the wood stock in 308 win. its a different gun than I'm used to. I hope to shoot it soon. It comes with a 5rd mag, and two 20rd mags. I'm not crazy about the m16 style guns but the wood furniture caught my eye I like wood stocks plus I wanted a 308 caliber rifle. I also heard they are great shooters too you just can't wear them out too. BigBill

The CETME is a Spanish version of the German G-3 or HK 91. They can be good rifles and are fairly accurate. Better than an AK-47, but not a tack driver like the AR-15. The only problem I have heard is that SOME of the Century Arms imports had a few functioning problems. These may have been the early ones, I am not sure. The price is ok, I have seen them here for $400 even. They are related loosly to the famed FAL rifle. The FAL imported by Century runs about $500. If ya want a scope one it, go for the FAL, it is easier to mount an optical sight on. If you like the reciever sights, the CETME is a good rifle.

As to the others that you mentioned, the AK was just too inaccurate for me, and I have never liked the SKS. The M-1 is great! You are just limited to the 8-round in-bloc clip. If this doesn't bother you, it may be the best choice for you. They are accurate, can be scoped, and are usually very reliable. I hope this helps.

I think that accuracy in the same sentence with M16/AR15 just doesn't go together no flame intended but our military guys in Afganistan just traded their M16's for M14's because of poor accuracy and killing power in long range shooting their being out gunned. The AK is the most popular weapon of all time and used by so many countries around the world. They can take a handful of sand and keep on ticking thats what happened to our 507th group of repair people their they made a wrong turn and their great M16's didn't function because of sand(jammed) well so much for our great americanm made stuff(junk) we should of bought them russian AK's?? We could use the Iraqies ammo and have a better gun. I have never had a more dependable gun than my sks. Made so simple/loose it can't not work but I can't believe the dam thing shoots too(crude). I knew that the mattel toy was garbage from the beginning when they had trouble in Vietnam and the problems continue with them. So its back to a great dependable gun the M14 thank God my 155mm howitzers that I made assemblies for worked flawlessly and the machines that I built that made the parts for the Abrams (turret brgs) and the tank engine parts(main rotor) somethings we do so good and somethings we just stay bad at?? WE just never learn from mistakes?? Just my thoughts BigBill

Its the first thing our 507th pow's complained about when released their guns were jammed and they couldn't shoot back. This is why our special forces in nam used ak's when away from our troops because of the distinctive sound our troops thought they were the emeny.

Well, I had a long reply typed but decided to delete it. I didn't want to start a flame war. The fact is that the AR-15/M-16 is one of the most accurate platforms out there. The M-14 is great, a personal favorite. An AK is just so much crap. Our troops are not being "outgunned" by a rifle/cartridge combo that is lucky to reach 200 meters and our troops are not replacing the M16 with the M14. It is being issued for some sharpshooters to use in some long range situations. The AK was issued so widely because it is so CHEAP! The Russians GAVE the dang thing away! If you were to check, you would se that only the underdevelpoed and poor, usually Communist, countries use it. Tha FAL, the progenitor of the afore mentioned CETME, has been used by over 80 countries. It has been the most common "good guy" weapon, usually seen in conflicts oposing the AK. The M-16 is a close second to the FAL.

I have to say our guys up against old mosins too thats what really piled up the russian body bags they were up on the ridges above the russians. I seen in a video the sand fleas were holding 91 mosins to the camera when they were interviewed about the russian war. What got us past that problem was the B52's they would just bomb the whole ridge heck the whole side of the mountain for sure. BigBill

Now I can see a Mosin Nagant causing problems. Those are accurate rifles! Alot of Mosins, Mausers, and Enfields keep turning up in the hot spots of ther world. When rapid fire isn't a nescesity, it is hard to beet a good bolt! :D

I have a HK G3 that I really like. Good shooter with jacketed or cast. The only complaint I have about it, is with the muzzle break, and shooting inside my shooting house, even with double hearing protection, this puppy is LOUD!

The "latest craze" is the CETME right now and like the AR15, SKS, AK47 and the Garand which crazes still continue to this day by many. But the main thing about it is the WOOD I wanted a gun with furniture.
BigBill

My next new hunting rifle will have a plastic stock(savage) but the wood on the cetme just caught my eye.

My favorite is the M-14 too but they cost a small fortune these days. I saw cetmes in shotgun news recently with the milled receiver for 265 to 289. None had the cammie stock though. One thing to keep in mind with one is that they have a fluted chamber so brass life will be limited if you reload. they are fine rifles though. Just not as good as a m-14 or a m-1. I just got a thing for the ones I carried personaly in the service.

I've competed with the M14 for twenty years (went Distinguished with it!) and it pains me to have to say that the latest M16s are even more accurate than my Quantico-built, double lug jobs. :(

Late last summer I bought a Rock River CMP gun for not much more than I've paid for an M1A receiver! My scores went, uh... UP! I'm still in denial about shooting a mousegun, so I got mine with green furniture so I can still say I don't shoot the black rifle :)

Live and learn. Even old Jarhead dogs can learn new tricks, I'm telling ya.

But with that said lets talk about FLUTED chambers I heard that we must be careful what ammo we use in fluted chambers 308 win has thin cases that prone to break in fluted chambers thats why i was told to shoot 308 nato in my Cetme to avoid problems broken stuck cases. Has anyone ever had this problem yet or heard of it?? BigBill

Thank's great site I need all the help on this puppie I can get its my first one(cetme) and a little different than anything i have for sure. Not as easy as the others to work on either it seems the closer to newer we get the harder it becomes to work on. The FN49's, MAS49/56's, Tokarev's and the sks's are so easy/simple to take apart. I'm not sure if its a good thing or bad thing but i like the easier ones for sure. BigBill

It may change my mind by working flawlessly I just hope its as good as most say it is.

I shot my Cetme and its awesome smooth like the Hakim but lighter and in 308. It empties the magazine as fast as I pull the trigger. I'm thinking of buying another one while their still affordable and availabe too.
