Anyone have any experience with the Charles Daly m-98 Commercial Mausers from Yugoslavia?

Nice looking and reasonably priced, they look great but according to Charles Daly's web site they're not yet available in the US. Is this true?

Advocate: from what I have read on those rifles they are the old mark x action that were imported by Interarms a few years ago, and can be had in stainless now. When I am able to put my hands on one and look it over I may be in the market for one as I have a few of the mark x actions and I have always liked them. :D JIM

Charles Daly Mausers

I think I'm one of the few guys in U.S. that have a Charles Daly Mauser. I bought the "Field Grade" in .243 WCF. Sweet gun. Don't care much for BB-gun stocks (actually a rather nice Butler Creek composite), but it seems to "de rigueur" these days. Has great features like a slide saftey, button-release floorplate, and adjustable trigger. The Field Grades are, for lack of a better description, "black finished". Not sure how they do it, but looks like it was painted with flat black paint. Mine shoots 1" to 1-1/2 with 87-gr. bullets and handles well. I bought it mostly for the action, because the whole rifle is cheaper than a "refurbed" Mauser action. Now I'm on to other things and, if its allowed, make me an offer I can't refuse.

ReedG: You got that right. Daly's web site lists the MSR price of an action at $289.00 which is indeed just about what it would cost to "sportserize" a military mauser. The question is when will they be available?

Re: Daly Mausers

I was going to look up the congressional bill that is mentioned on the Charles Daly site and see just what it said and haven't got to it yet. But it has something to do with quotas and import regulations from the old "Eastern Bloc" countries. Can't imagine Congress will move too fast on that.
