I let my 7 lb. Maltese girl out to chase a few tree rats in the back yard, until I noticed a coyote trotting towards her. His eyes were fixed on my dog, so I gave a hand signal to come inside and she ran to the door. I stepped inside to quickly get my Savage 22-250 and when I checked back he was still standing there, trying to figure out where the dog went. He looked away briefly and that's when I took aim out the back door. He seen me and bolted away, but I barked at him, a couple of times and he stopped long enough for a shot. ☠🐾 Don't chase my dog!!!

<--- My little girl GS was a tree rat specialist 16 to here cred, now she lets them slide at 11 yrs she has slowed a bit and gotten zen'ish, in the pic she has one in front of her with cracked melon she really seemed to get a ya ya from squeezing until it popped.... best dog ever LOL

Dogs will amaze us at what they're capable of doing. My Maltese was not a hunting breed, but she would chase squirrels on sight and if she lost them, she would put her nose to the ground and quickly figure out which tree it was in and bark it out. She would hunt for a couple of hours before getting tired, at which point I'd carry her home.
I could go on and on about what all she knew and could do, as she was very intelligent.
She is sorely missed, as she passed away this past October on Columbus Day, at the age of 16. 💔
She lived a good life! 💯

Sad when they go, The Tee shirt reminded of my Sadie a Llewellin Setter loved wearing Tee shirts her favorite was a Superman Tee we called her Super Sadie !! and she was we could tell stories for quite sometime I am sure

Reminded me also, The coyote pelt that sits on top of my safe was taken with my 22-250 also it was stalking my son he was about ten at the time

I good way to remember her, always is with a crystal, like the one I purchased from Crystal Clear Memories, in Tampa, Florida. I ordered it on a Friday and had it in my hand on the following Tuesday. I sent the photo below, from when she was a year old and this is the crystal they made. It was better than I hoped and when I pulled it out of the box, my eyes welled up. 🐾 The illuminated base really sets it off as an eye catching memorial.
Awesome company that kept in constant contact with me about my order via emails. 💯

my piper is getting older, but still moves well.
shes 70 lb, of solid muscle.
her mom was a yellow lab,
dad was a large husky shepherd mix.
the husky in her, drivers her to kill!
she has killed many critters,
sadly mostly skunks, lol.

I will cry like a 6 year old girl,
when shes leaves my side!

im taking her camping in Northern Michigan this weekend!
she loves being in the woods!

took piper for a walk out to where I hunt today.
she jumped 3 does, and a buck.
she was off to the races after them!
shes a city dog, my yards kinda small.

Great thread, dog people just get it. None currently but had 1 or 2 the better part of the last 30 years. Cried like a child each time we had to say goodbye to one.

Funny story, had a little crazy dog about the size of a Jack Russel, but weighed 35 pounds of solid muscle. Needed to sell a house in MI winter due to relo. 15 minutes before a showing she caught a squirrel and the snow in the backyard was strewn with blood everywhere. Funny in retrospect, not so much in real time.

That is a happy ending! Good dog in the house but baddd dog down.
Heading out tonite for another bad dog down hopefully ahead of the winter storm warning.
