I have picked up a Remington Model 6 falling block action. I have in mind to stock it and locate a .17 Hornaday barrel and fit it to the action. Any Idea if this might work. I have never built a rifle before and yes I have more ideas then sense sometimes. Anyone tried anyting like this? JB

.17 magnum rebarrel

We are all tempted to do unusual projects or sometimes cut corners to save money on a gun project, but in this case, the words "DON'T DO IT!!!' have special meaning.

Those little Remington Number 4 and Number 6 rifle actions were never designed to contain the pressures and stresses of the .17 rimfire magnum cartridge. Ditto for the Stevens Favorite series.

If you examine the action, you will see that the breech block is simply propped up in place. Strong enough for the .22 Long Rifle cartridge, but certainly not the .22 WRFM or the .17 Hornady rimfire magnum.

Be safe.

.17

Thanks John, I have been rethinking this plan for the reason you so stated. Yet, I wonder what the recoil pressure is on that light little bullet? I remember a formula to figure up the pressure, I will try and find it. I know Stevens is making there single shot in .17 HRM. I am still scratching my chin on this one. JB
