I wonder wich commercal "not surplus" ammo would shoot closest to the sights for use in a hi-power rifle match? Does anybody have the specs on the Finns military loading?

Lots of guys like the Wolf ammo with the heavy bullet. I think it is good ammo just wish the case was reloadable. I have bought Win and it shot well out of my Polish Mosin 44. If it was me I would buy some reloadable cases and work up a good load for it. The Finn guns have a good rep for shooting Cast bullets. Jim

commercial ammunition??

With all of the excellent good priced surplus ammunition that is available you should give it some consideration.

Nope I have never and never will shoot any surplus ammo in any of my milsurp rifles, I just prefer cleaning not to be situation critical!

As for handloading, I could and do but sometimes it's nice to go buy 60 rds for $20 and blast away.

Wolf offers a 7,62x54 match ammo that has won many European shoots I highly recommend you give it a try. I did see it offered on one of the sites on the net. I would say to use the sellier & bellot 7,62x54 in FMJ but i have heard there other ammo is inconstant with the crono(7,62x25) so the powder charge maybe all diferent. But i haven't heard anything about their rifle ammo on the crono yet. I know the only thing left is reloading then its the bullet weight and the burn rate of the powder to match the twist of rifling in the barrel if you want awesome accuracy. You could checkout www.gunboards.com then click on mosin-nagant.net they do have some info on Finnish mosins. BigBill

I shoot surplus ammo in just about everything sometimes and i just clean it good with the orginal Army G.I. Bore Cleaner and i never had a problem yet. Plus i never trust any imported ammo wether its new or surplus we just never know. I clean all my guns the sameway even my modern guns too so i never make a mistake. Nowadays I trust no one as to what primers they are using.

The V.P.T. ammunition of the WWII years and before was really
some beautiful stuff. You very seldom see it anymore.
It came in a strange looking triangle shaped box.
I pulled a couple of bullets from some a while back to try
and ID the powder and they were actually hollow based
bullets. (A deep hollow cone much like the chinese match grade ammo).
I will try to find one of the bullets I pulled an weigh it for you.
