There is a lot of information on this site concerning the CZ rifles of various calibers. Most post show that they are a well liked and excepted gun. I have decided to go with a CZ 527 American in .204 Ruger. My question is about the stocks. CZ offers 8-10 different stocks. Has anyone here bought or even seen a 527 with a maple stock? If so, what did you think. I have 20+ guns with walnut stocks in different grades but i don't have a maple gun. I will have to order one because my gun guy doesn't have one in stock. I would like some opinions before I tell him to order it.

Thanks!

I have not seen any maple 527s on any dealers rack. Too bad, as maple is a nice gunstock wood. The problem with ordering is that you get what you get. In otherwords the grain could be spectacular, or very plain looking. When I bought my walnut 527, I got to pick the one I wanted out 5 they had in stock.

I've seen two maple stocked 527s, both in .223. Both had a tad more figure than you generally see in CZ's walnut, but neither was particularly fancy, just decent stocks with a bit of tiger striping. One was very light in color, and the other a little darker yellow tan.

Had me salivating, and I have no particular use for the .223 cartridge.

I've got one with a maple stock. I like it because it's a nice light blond color, very unique looking. A buddy of mine told me about it sitting in the rack at a gun shop about 2 1/2 hours from my home. Like someone said you don't have your pick of wood and mine doesn't have much curl but still it's a good looking hunk of wood. Since muzzle loaders have been built from maple for hundreds of years, I had no qualms about buying one.

Yup my dealer has one in .223. I sure don't need it and wish he'd hurry up and sell it cuz if he don't sooner or later I'm gonna give in to the temptation and bring it home. Beautiful but then I've always been a sucker for a blond stock. Just love the looks of them.

Uh huh - me too!

There are two (both 223's) sitting here in Missoula. Been there a while and it's getting tempting ....

BGH, just realized you're from Oxford. Run up to Gadsden to the Sportsman's Exchange. Steve is the one who has the one in .223 or at least did last time I was there. He's on 6th and Walnut.

Hmmmm, maple might be a nice alternative. All my stocks are walnut except my last two, which are laminates. Now that I've broken the walnut only habit a nice piece of maple would fill the bill. It sure as **** won't be plastic though. Somehow synthetics leave me cold, and I do indeed like CZs. Best wishes.

If I'm not mistaken you can get the CZ in two different maple stocks, the birds eye maple and the flame maple. Both are light colored wood. I don't know how fancy they are. The flame maple can be a real beauty depending on how much figure is present in the butt end. It's nice to see that someone is still offering them. Best wishes.
