Last week I had Deer burger Tacos man they were good, I am almost to the point that I cannot stand Beef any more. when all this started I checked my freezer and I felt I had enough Deer. Fish, for meat but bought a whole chicken to make Chicken and dumplings and a large pack of chicken tenders I should be good for some time.

My wild game dining consists of venison , turkey, and sika.
It is the best that can be imagined as far as flavor.
Had some whitetail tenderloin for lunch yesterday and the leftovers from that have been munched on repeatedly since they left the grill.
That was quite a rump slice with those morels, omegahunter.

That was my first trip this year, but I believe that I was probably a week behind in getting out when the first ones were popping up. It was 83 degrees yesterday in southern Indiana and we had a good rain storm go through last night. I happen to be off work tomorrow, so I will be heading to the woods again!!!

Best of luck to you when Wisconsin gets warmed up enough that the morels starting popping up for ya!

That steak looks great. Going to be a while before our mushrooms start popping. Yesterday was our first to hit 70 degrees. Been mostly in the 40's and 50's, and we still get frost most nights. Id guess we may start finding some around the first of May. Can't wait.

It was about 50° when I picked those.

Was 45° today and supposed to be 60° tomorrow. I plan to go again tomorrow!

I carry a small soil thermometer and check the soil temperature. I have never found morels below 50 degrees soil temp. Our days are getting warmer but we are still getting frost most nights. Soils here heat up slow (north Idaho). Can hardly wait.

Found 30 more on the 11th, but we have been down to freezing and below for 3 nights in a row. Think I will wait to look again when overnight temps are above 40 again.

I have been finding some gray and black morels ones here in southern Ohio. I read somewhere years ago that the ground temperature has to be 55 degrees and then once the ground temperature hits 62 degrees they are done
