When the 44 was introducted in 1965 it came with the straight gripped stock and fluted Monte Carlo comb and a recoil pad. The pistol gripped stock did not show up until 1971.
They do make a .444 with a straight grip. It is the model with the shorter 18 1/2" barrell. Mine is the ported model. I believe the difference in the new ones is they no longer have the ported barrell.

Marlin dropped the 444P Outfitter. 2002 was the last year it was made. Does anyone know if it was ever made without ports? I have never seen a non ported one.
Duesouth - No it was never made without ports it was just a .444 version of the guide gun. If I was in the market for a .444 and an Outfitter crossed my path I'd grab it in a second! CEJ..
