What rifle would you take on your dream hunt for game considered to be non dangerous ? Would you take your Handi or go back to your bolt action ?

well i hate to say it but if i was going on a dream hunt i would have a dream rifle. it would be custom made and probably ,depending on game , chambered in 257 weatherby but thats a whole other can of worms there. but i would not feel out classed or out gunned with any of my handi's and being that a dream hunt would cost a arm and a leg i would probably take a handi either my 30-06 of maybe i would get a 7mm-08 again i love that gun.

I think I'd take my 30-06 Savage, just cause I don't have a30-06 barrel for my handi yet.

If I get one, I really think I'll take the Handi. I am going to take it for deer this year (243)

My first choice would be definately my bow... My second choice would be my revolver. My third choice would be my 1895GS. My LAST choice would be my Handi in .280Rem.
The reason my Handi is my last choice is using that rifle is more like "shooting", not hunting. "If you can see it, you can kill it" isn't much of a hunt in my book.
Now, if you would've asked about the rifle I would choose if I had to survive in the wilds eating only game I killed, then the .280Rem would be #1.

Hmmmmmm....hard choice there youngbvd...my dream hunt...josh...when I dream ...I dream of those 3-6 month safari's on the dark continent... so...that would mean going back in time...well...looks like I might have to have that 38-55 reworked into a 405 Winchester after all  ...seriously though.. back to the present....if my 338-06 shoots as good as my 30-06 Ultracomp..it would get the nod...and I would be hunting Dall Sheep high up.....but then those majestic wapiti...would be bugling then....defiantly those 2 would go along...since they are fitted for the same frame...yep...I would take them even over my 270 Weatherby Vangaurd...

For me it depend on type of game for moose and caribou I have always used a .338 Winchester bolt action ,but I've really just started using Handi's . I did take 2 deer last year with my .308 Handi. I have 2 new barrels .223 and a .270 ultra comp. to try.

Since I live in Montana, I guess I feel I have my dream hunts every Fall. My 25-06 Ultra is my main antelope and muley tool. Over the last 5 years it has been the most used. The 7x57 Ultra has become my back-up. For whitetail the 30-30 Handi or the Shikari 45-70 will get the job done. Haven't hunted elk for years, but the 35 Whelen RMEF is ready to go. But if the 30-06 Comp rings out good, the above could all change.

My Dream Hunt would be a week long Coastal Blacktail hunt on Vancouver Island or Queen Charlotte Islands with my 10 yr old son.

I would use my Handi in 30/30, he would get the 357mag. In addition we'd have a 22 Sportster and a Topper 20 ga in camp for rabbits and grouse.

Cheers

This may seem like just an average hunt for you guys out west but i've always dreamed of huntin pronghorn antelope.

Since i don't have a barrel capable of doin this right now i would have to get a barrel chambered for the 7-30 waters and for a back up it would be the 6.5x55.

Varminter ...

You and I dream the same dream ... antelope. I have always wanted to do an antelope hunt out West and will do so someday after I get my son through this last year of college. I would buy a Tikka in 7mm-08 to take and work up some loads that would take a prized pronghorn. I have several rifles including my Handi's that are accurate to my tough standards but I would still buy the Tikka ... and scope it with a Bushnell Elite 4200 or a Leupold.

Aaaahh!! The "dream hunt"

Every year within a few days of my last hunt I start to dream about next years hunts, so, in my case, every hunt is a dream hunt

This year it'll be a bow for antelope in August, a .54 round ball for cow elk in Sept, either my k31 or MN91/30 for another cow hunt in Oct, and finally either a 45-70 or an sks for deer in December.

Still trying to dream up a few more hunts to boot. :)

I'd suggest one of the three.
243 Win
7-08
25-06
for antelope. The shots can be very long and could easily get out of range of the 7-30

Thats what i was thinking after i posted that. So it would have to be the 6.5x55 in a handi with a 24 in barrel; with a gray and black laminate stock from gun stocks inc with a springfield armory scope.

My dream hunt would be after Dall sheep in the steep windswept mountains. I will someday go on it.

At this point, I'm not sure what gun I would take. Something with long range capability...lightweight...perhaps a bipod attached for far shots. If it had to be a Handi, ofcourse my 25-06 would be used before the 223. My first choice would be a gun with more knockdown though
