This might be my first post on here....not the best way to start out, but.....

I've seen some posts on RFC about dry firing, and it being okay to do with a 10/22. I've always been told that dry firing is a bad thing, but in light of the 10/22 discussion and practicing trigger pull and keeping the gun in place......I guess I'll ask the question....

Is it okay for NEF's to be dry fired?? I have a Sportster in .17 HMR.

Do they make .17 HMR snap caps??

just use a spent case ok. rotate it every few firings for the firing pin to hit something fresh.

I've never seen 17hmr or 22mag snap caps, but I have bought and used 22Lr snap caps in my 17hmr and 17m2, they work fine as well as using spent brass just as LS308 has suggested. The problem with dry firing a rimfire is if the firing pin can hit the chamber lip, it can peen the chamber causing failure to ejects. It can also damage the firing pin. So, unless H&R specifically states it's ok, I wouldn't recommend doing it, specially when a spent case is all that it takes to allow it to be done safely. :wink:
