Now that the snow is disappearing in the Ottawa area, my thoughts and actions are beginning to be drawn to hunting activities.

I just got back from doing some scouting for turkeys, and for the past couple of weeks I've been working on getting things lined up for my moose hunts.

My buddy can't make it for our bowhunt for moose, so unless I can line someone else up, I may have to miss that trip this year. I've got 5 guys solid, a stong possible and 5 weak possibles for the gun hunt for moose.

I have a lot of shooting to do, and a camping trailer and ATV that need some work, so I won't be lacking in things to do to keep hunting in the forefront of my consciousness.

Anyone else out there starting to put it in gear now that we're coming out of the deep freeze?

Visited the Peterborough fish and game club this weekend. Range is muddy, but usable. i'm looking for a range to join so I can get into hangun.
It's my understanding that the CFO won't let you buy unless you are a member of a licenced range.
Sighted in the scope on my recently aquired '99 Savage in 308.
Mounted it myself on the kitchen table, then sighted through the window at a distant object with the open sights, and cranked the scope over to match.
I was only off by 1" !!!
When and where do you bow hunt for moose?
I doub't I could manage it, (hollidays) but I'd like to.

i don't do most of my hunting until fall rolls around, (with the exception of last weeks spring bear) but i've been playing with my fishing tackle every day and going stir crazy. the temp here hit 27 on sunday and was a perfect day for wetting a line.but alas, a month till season opens.

John Y:

For the last couple of years, I've been hunting in zone 24 - about 40 miles north of Kapuskasing. Actually, I first hunted there about a dozen years ago when they first opened the archery season. I didn't go back for a few years, and then have started up again.

Last fall we had a young bull orbiting us but he wouldn't come into sight. Things were just starting to pick up when we left on the thursday before the opening of the gun season. I hear that the gun hunters had good success in the north last year.

I've been pretty flexible with when I go up, because since I've retired, I don't have a schedule to keep to, and can hunt anytime during the 3 week season.
