I need opinions on the ez tip extractor for the muzzleloading barrels. Do you guys use them or what. I seem to remember a post about removing the axtractor on these barrels. If so how do you do that???? My barrel was bought 2nd hand with no paperwork.

I am one of the one's that just take the factory extractor off and use my fingers to remove and replace the primers. Never had a problem with this method so far. Seems there is a little screw on the right side of the barrel down by the lug that will allow you to remove the extractor.

I put one on mine. I feel it was well enough worth it... although pulling it out with your fingers is the other way to go.

Pretty easy to instatll. You loosen or remove the screw in the cleat... it slides out... slide in the new one and retighten the screw so that it moves correctly....

Either beats removing the barrel in order to remove the breach plug... that's for sure.

Thanks for the tips, the extractor is now is the gunsafe off of the gun..

I have had a change of opinion on this one. I bought the Ez-tip extractor when it first came out and it broke on the first shot. I returned it and just took the extractor out. Last year I shot a deer when it was 10 degrees and I had been sitting in a stand for a couple of hours. I had a hard time flipping the primer out with my cold hands to reload.

Also when range shooting this summer me and my wifes Encores get just enough blowback that the primer gets hard enough to remove without the extractor that a screwdriver is sometimes needed after 15-20 shots.

I am going to buy another one of the ez-tip extractors and give it another try.

I have an Ez-tip primer extractor on my 209X50 and I think it is a great idea! I don't have to disassemble the rifle to remove the breach plug, so now it only takes about half the time to clean the rifle!
Now I have to remember before ML season opens, to order one for my wifes rifle!

For those of you who broke an ez-tip, I have been wondering what made it break!
I'll bet some of you closed or tried to close your action with the extractor tipped off sideways!

I switched over to the EZ Tip extractor, it's OK. The old one was not that much trouble to remove during cleaning. But, I deffinately need an extractor. The temp here during muzzleloader hunts can be anywhere from 10 degrees above to 30 below. Arthritic fingers get awful stiff at that time.

I too had a EZ break. And I never shut it in the action. It broke down by that tiny little screw that makes it pivot. Went back to the factory extractor, Not that big of a deal to take it out for cleaning. I may try without it. What is the 25 ACP all about??

The 25ACP conversion is a T/C 209 Breech Plug drilled to accept 25ACP brass. This provides a reduced charge (due to the small rifle primer) compared to the 209 primer which some say launches the charge into the barrel before it can completely ignite affecting accuracy. Some say it reduces the 'crud ring' as well.

Whatever the case, I really like mine. Costs about $50 w/o brass.

I ordered the 25 acp breech the day that I heard about it. I also ordered a 2x oversized pin. WOW, I don't know which one did the trick, but I like the results!! My 50 cal went from " its fine for hunting" to " damn, that's a muzzle loader?"! Im looking forward to seeing what kind of distance I can get with this gun now. Heading to Ontario tomorrow for a bear hunt. The encore is coming with, but only as a back up to my Hoyt.
