I just bought a 76C in April and have played around with it quite a bit. I'm very happy with it but I can't seem to find a way to enter a set of co-ordinates. For example if a friend ice fishing finds a good spot and gives me the co-ordinates I don't know how to enter that info on my unit and then "go-to" to the spot.

Hit the MENU BUTTON AND SELECT "Use with GPS Off" if you want to save your batteries while doing this. Not required.

Press the"ENTER/MARK" button. This will create a new waypoint using the man overboard option.

Press the "FIND" button.
This will bring up a set of icons. Select the "Waypoint" icon with the enter button.

This will bring up a waypoint number with a Red Flag in front of it.(It will bring up the last waypoint icon used.) Press the ENTER button. This will bring up the new waypoint information at your current location. You now want to Edit the information. You will notice the "GoTo" is highlighted. Use the center rock button to push the high light to the upper left box with the red flag. This brings up a page loaded with icons. In this example we will select the "fish" icon under the outdoors option. Use the rocker button to move the highlight over to the fish icon and push enter. Next you might want to push the highlight over to the waypoint number that was created. Hit enter and you can rename the waypoint. When you are done hit OK in the drop down.

Next you might want to add a note in the Note box. Highlight and hit Enter. You then can add your note and hit OK when done.

Scroll down to the "Location" box and hit ENTER.

I suggest that you check to make sure that you have correctly loaded the information. It is easy to make a mistake.

If you have topo software on your unit I suggest you then try the map option. If it puts out over water instead of up on a hill then you have it. I would also shut the unit down and restart it to make sure that I could find the waypoint. I like Names over numbers, and symbols when they relate to the activity.

A while back I was showing how the waypoints displayed on MapSource Topo maps. I noted that the person I was showing was paying to close attention to the fish symbols on he map.

Thanks Siskiyou I tried it and it worked ... sort of. I didn't get the waypoint with the red flag just a regular waypoint with the last symbol I used. I didn't realise you could change the location but I do now and so I should be OK.

You made a good point. I had to pull out my 76C. When you hit the ENTER/MARK button your waypoint marker will default to the last symbol(icon) that was used. Last night it was a red flag in my unit. This evening it was the fish symbol because that is the one I used in last nights example.

Glad the process worked for you. Happy fishing.
