I traded my old Norinco for an Essex Arms hammered double today. The old thing locks up tight and seems to be in good shooting shape. Anybody know anything about this gun and company? It says "Essex Gun Works" on the left side and has a large "S X" superimposed over the name.

WWWEEEELLLLLLLLL!!! Didn't you have a good Saturday!!!! I don't know anything about them. I have heard the name EssexArms before but that's about the extent of it. Wish I could be more help, but for us lovers of fine old doubles, tell us a little more about it! Please

I had 2 of them at one time. The guns were made by the American Gun Company of NYC. They also made the Knickerbocker shotguns in the late 1800's and early 1900's. The Knickerbocker guns were mostly hammerless.
