I like small frog colored poppers- green & white, green & yellow- best have rubber legs like GB's spiders. I get a lot of largemouths on larger deer hair poppers as well!! Big fun.

wooly buggers, wooly grubbers, poppers, and another pattern called the bitch creek. It is a stonefly nymph that is yellow or orange and black with rubber legs. That is pretty much the only flies I've ever had to use around here. One of them will always work.

The little rascals like a yellow jacket patterned sinker, a small pencil popper in white, and if you're brave enough, kick in a fire ant bed that's built next to the pond bank, wait about 5 minutes, and tie on ANYTHING!

my favorite gill fly.

i use what i call a black hackle starling.

it is tied on a #10 3906 mustad.

it has a short red wool tail, black wool body and a soft webby starling body feather tied in a wet type collar.

this is a very durable fly and easily tied. it is of course subsurface and works anytime of the year.
