I'm one of those newbies to casting and looking to get started soon. Fell in love with the 45 Colt cartridge and frustrated about the lack of a local lead bullet supply, other than the lighter 452 bullets intended for 45acp. I have been a customer of Midway USA for a few years and know they carry a respectable quantity of casting equipment. Is there a better source for casting equipment? Anyone have a favorite other than Midway USA?

Thanks

Check with the local gun shop first if you have one close. The one I live near sells for the same price for most things and I do not have to pay shipping. IF you do not have any close place then I guess mail order is your best option. Midway is a pretty good place it looks like. I have never ordered from them though as the local shop has or can get for the same price and like I said no shipping. :)

No local shops carrying casting equipment

Well...no "gun shops"....the local Gander Mountain carries a very limited supply of equipment (a couple furnaces, a dipper, and an ingot mold). I prefer to support the local shops on most items, but casting doesn't seem to be a popular pastime here based on the availability of equipment.

jh45gun - I stop at Superior Shooting Supplies when I get up that way, but it's not very often. I'm in Glenwood City - about an hour due east of the twin cities right on 94. No shops around here (including Eau Claire and the Twin Cities) carry any casting gear.

Y'all need to know about Bill Ferguson. Check out www.theantimonyman for things you can't get elsewhere like Rowell ladles, thermometers, plumber's pots, and various bullet alloys. He's an old fellow who has been a supporter of casting bullets for a really long time.
