I don’t know where I should be posting this, so I’m putting copies everywhere I can think of, hoping for a source of expertise.

I recently bought a Globco 555 in .303 British. This is an autoloading rifle, which is a Russian Tokarev that was sporterized and re-chambered to .303 for the Canadian market in the 1960’s.

I originally bought this rifle for interest’s sake, but, I like the feel of it, and I've always enjoyed hunting with an autoloader. I’m hoping that if the action proves reliable, and it is a reasonable shooter, that I might carry it deer hunting this fall.

There are 2 grooves on opposite sides at the back of the receiver, where it appears that something was meant to slide onto the rifle. I’m wondering if this could possibly be for a scope mount, or if it might be possible to have a scope mount made that clamps onto the rifle at these points? Does anyone know of any original or aftermarket scope mounts for the Tokarev? I would only mount a red dot or Holosight on this rifle, so a mount wouldn’t have to be very high or be able to support some heavy high-magnification scope.

Also, does anyone know of a source of clips that would work in a Tokarev? I always like a spare. I would probably have to have one modified for it to be legal in Canada (5 shot rule).

I bought it from Epps for a list price of $249 (listed as "good" condition) - with shipping, handling, taxes and registration it ran about $335.

I remember these guns being sold at Canadian Tire in the early to mid 60's for about $180 (compared with an SMLE at $19.99), so they were out of my price range as a high schooler.

Every now and then I've heard of someone who had one, but usually they haven't been for sale, or (like mine) have just been bought.

The only negatives I've heard so far is that they sometimes won't feed round nosed bullets, but I'll have to try mine out to see if I have that problem.

Holdengr:

Actually they look more like the grooves in a front sight that hold a sight cover - except they're longer and wider.

From info I got on a couple of other boards they are designed for a scope mount, but an original scope mount costs somewhere in the $250 US range. Apparently B Square makes an aftermarket base for something in the $70 US range, but the Canadian supplier (Districorp) I was directed to is out of stock.

Global Model 555 .303.brit svt-40

I recently purchased a Global mohawk model 555 from a consignment webpage....at first i could not for the life of me find any info onit. It was bugging me for weeks before i realized it was a sporterized svt-40 .Which made me feel kinda silly as it is pretty  obvious once you know .
Itis a very light gun...with a gourgous stock . It has a set of very clean and usable sights wich i used at the range to to achieve a inch grouping at 100 yards with old surplus ammo on a sand bag . It is now my main deer rifle and i look forward to hunting deer in the Queen charletts next year with it . If I ever see another I will by it on the spot!! O yah also came with a mint condition 10 round box mag.#offofthe bottom of the bolt has 2 symbols or cyrllic writing a backwards 7 and a pi symbolthen the numbers3309 . It also came with a scope mounted on it wich i have removed
