I've been looking for a Buffalo Classic for a while now, and I'd almost given up on finding a used one locally. One of the local stores has one new, but I don't particularly like buying new guns (mainly because there are too many good deals on used guns, especially if you are patient). Well, my patience paid off. I was in the neighborhood of one of the local pawn shops yesterday, so I stopped by. They were actually just closing, so I made a passing glance over the gun rack. I noticed the checkered schnabel forend almost immediately, and I new exactly what it was.

Sure enough, it was a Buffalo Classic in .45-70, with a price tag of only $219! I had just bought another Handi from the same shop a week or two earlier, so the owner let me have this one for $200 out the door. Aren't pawn shops great!!

Now, let's go load up some more 405gr lead!

The shop is in Milledgeville, and they do have a .243 Handi. I think its a synthetic model, but I'm not sure. Let me know if you want me to check it out. Oh yeah, anther shop has a .30-06 locally, so please let me know if anyone is looking for one.

Thanks, Jason280,
I cannot find a Pawn shop up here in Athens that doesn't think used rifles should be sold for under new retail prices. A shop here has a beat up 45/70, camo painted, with a pitted bore and a cheap bushnell scope they want $250 for. I need to shop in your area.

Yeah, it was the same when I lived in Athens. I actually knew a few of the guys at Franklin's, and I bought a few guns from them. But I never bought a single gun from a pawn shop. Its a completely different here in Milledgeville. I've gotten to know most of the pawn guys, and they have always given me good deals.

I absolutely love this BC! I shot it a few times today, and it is absolutely a joy to shoot (at least with level one loads). I may try replacing the rear sight with a true tang sight, but I'm not sure.

I don't know what it is about the gun, but the 32" barrel just oozes "coolness"!

Great buy you got there Jason!! Coolness is when you can put one of these puppies on the right in the chamber!! That little round on the left is a 45-70 nosler partition.... :-D

I just ordered another 45-70 barrel for mine so I can shoot 45-70 and 45-120 on the BC frame. I also have some 2300+ fps 300gr nosler partition loads that I worked up in my 22" Handi that I want to shoot in the 32" BC barrel to see how much difference there is in velocity between the barrels.....

I was at the Rivanna rifle range last week and this guy had a brand new BC in .45-70. I was watching him shoot it for the first time when he asked if I'd like to shoot. I was pleased to do so, and he was pleased when I put 2 shots @ 6 o-clock in his sight-in square within two inches of each other with the peep site set up @ 100yards. It had a very light, crisp trigger, and was very comfortable from the bench with his 240gr JHP Remington Green box ammo.
I was impressed with this peace.

Tim,

I don't know if I'll ever be man enough to have a .45-120 (except in a cartridge collection)!!

But, to be honest, I have toyed with the idea of reaming it out to 120. I mean, after all, I all ready have a 22" .45-70 Handi, so why not a 32" .45-120? I guess I need to try out my 1900+ fps 405gr loads before I go even heavier!

:-D :-D

Jason,

I don't shoot heavy loads in mine, but I can shoot any size bullet I want at any reasonable speed. One of the problems with the 45-70 Handi barrels is just the opposite of the rest of the Handi calibers, it has a short throat which limits powder capacity when loading big bullets. That's not an issue with the 45-120....
