Howdy folks from someone who likes to shoot steel. There is a question from one of my pards about lead splatter from 22s. I know that you guys shoot 22s at metal targets too. I though that maybe one of you guys might come on over to Cowboy Action shooting forum and lets us in on it.
Thanks

bullet splatter from 22LR

Most splatter occurs from steel target holders or target stands and from targets that have been bowed in from too many hits near center and from bullet craters on targets. NRA moved their close targets at 25 meters back to 40 meters to aleviate the bullet splatte problem. Don't guess this would work with the cowboy folks as they like to shoot close targets so they can hit them. The bullet splatter danger is why I don't shoot cowboy action matches anymore.

The only time I have seen splatter be a problem is from targets that are bowed or cratered. (I actually shot myself in the chest because of a cratered target last summer). If you keep them maintained there shouldn't be any problem.
