A neighbor who owns an auction house called me. She has two matched cannons that came fro Judge Roy Hofheinz's estate.
Very famous Houstonian involved in building the Astrodome and a host of other things.
More on him here.

She wanted my opinion on the guns. I was expecting junk but was quite surprised.
Bronze or brass? A magnet does not stick to anything on the gun or carriage.
Extremely well made and machined. Outside and inside the 2.25" bore.
Slanted vent hole.
Pretty cool looking carriages but probably fantasy type made of mahogany.
I'm not sure they have ever been fired.
No markings of any kind that I could find.

She intends to auction them off but has no idea of the value.

Any ideas of what these are?

I cannot help you with identification, but I will say I would be proud to own them. Very cool. The carriages are probably a bit fantasy, but cool. The hardware is amazing.

Is that just a vent weather cover, or some sort of cannon lock system?

Weather cover.
I still haven't been able to find out who the maker is.

I emailed the seller, no idea or speculation about the maker, but says they are legit as he bought direct from the yacht club.

Lord Mountbatten was the club Admiral, maybe he shot them once.

The pair in Texas look So close. They should fetch a tidy sum.

Thanks Fredstaple!

I still can't find the maker or any other pictures of these guns.
It seems to me that the same maker made these but they probably did not belong to the Yacht club hence no engraving.

I think I will try to remove a barrel and inspect it more closely for markings.
I would really like to solve this mystery.

cannonmn where are you???

The writeup talks about 4 total cannons at the yacht club. Is it possible that two were fancy for display and two were the common ones that were shot? Are there any local based cannon groups in the Southampton area that might know who made them?

Tomorrow, I'm going to pull both barrels off and look more closely for markings.
Sure wish I could find some.
It really doesn't make sense to me that a barrel of this quality has no visible markings.

I was doing some reading about that yacht club and the article mentioned 11 guns owned by the club. would be neat if you can find a Mark or trace these back as sister guns.

I also contacted the guy in England that has the other two guns for sale. No real news from there.
I sent pictures to Rock Island Auction house for their opinion and to see if things like that sell well with them.

Pictures went to Houston Yacht Club but I really don't expect too much help from there.

cannonmn must be asleep.

I pulled both barrels today. No markings of any kind. Seems pretty strange for barrels of this quality.
I believe the guns are going to be put in her Facebook live auction. She will let me know when it will be.

Zulu,

what was the approximate weight or the tube?

those look really nice, no markings are consistent with the other two that have the club stamp only.

Two of us picked it up easily. Maybe 150 lbs.? Lighter than I expected.
I neglected to measure the breech diameter but it has a 2.25" bore.

Good Morning, I will be putting these cannons in auction in the very near future. My neighbor has contacted this group with much of my appreciation. Since we cannot find any makers mark, which oftentimes determines value I will need your help in spreading the word to interested parties. I would appreciate any other forums suggested by you to help advertise. Thank you. Tina Murphy
