Im kinda new to this whole crossbow thing...i took delivery of a new ex-cal about half way through the last season.
I took two does last season with it, and thumped a nice 4-point opening week so far this season.

Anyway, being new to the X-bow I have a couple questions if you dont mind.
I know the main (go +nogo) for bolts is weight...but my question is in size. I have a bunch of 2117 easton shafts.
If I get the weight at or above the bolts that came with my bow can I shoot them safely?

Also, My bow seems to be really hard on fletchings...about four shots on the down fletch and they start to rip in the center....If I fletch with feathers instead of plastic will it help this?

My bow is the ex-cal exomax

Thanks in advance!!!

Hey welcome to the forum, congrats on harvesting yer deer. 2117 are fine, that used to be Excals main shaft size. All Excals shoot a min. of 350 grs. cept the Vixen its 325 grs. and up. OK ripped fletching, usually is caused by vanes and feathers being too long with 11 degrees of helical and or fletching is too high! Keep the ?'s coming! Will try too help you and others. Reason of too much helical is arrow slots are narrow and arrows are short.

Welcome to the Forum. I shoot 2117s a lot along with what ever I can find from that weight up to the 2219's I make my own crossbow arrows out of used shafts I find at rummage sales or given to me from bow hunting friends or bought on clearance. a 2117 will work just fine as long as you keep the weight were it belongs which is usually not a problem. I use aluminum inserts on both ends unless the arrow already has the fiber inserts on the end then I just use a aluminum one where I cut it off to length. I also use 5 inch feathers with no problem using a helical right hand twist.

Thank you for the replys!!
I cut 2 2117's down to 20' then fleteced them staright with feathers...they shot well with no visible wear with 4 shots with the same feather down.
and the point of impact is the same as the gold tips that came in the package.

thanks again guys!
