I have a M99 in 250 Sav. The trigger pull is smooth but fairly heavy ~ 6 lbs. Is is doable to lighten it up a bit, perhaps to 3.0 lbs? It is a series A with the sliding tang safety.

How does one lighten the trigger on a Savag

I have gone in, and stoned the two mating surfaces smooth, that helped the pull a lot, creep still sucks. I am no gunsmith, so I was very carefull. Mine was very rough, I finally had to resort to an ignition file to get it "started" :D

You might try getting or looking at a copy of: Gun Owner's Book of Care, Repair and Improvement. By Roy Dunlap. Copyright 1974. Library of Congress 73-92404. It has good photos of the trigger job on a 99.

Cool, found a used copy on Amazon.com for $4.87, so ordered it up. Thanks for the tip. It's always good to have these references laying around.

Wow! That was a quick find. After reading your post I told my wife that if family did not want my books after I drop to sell them on the Internet. There just might be a shooter out there who would want them.
