after years of hunting with peep sights 5 pins on my sight ive droped from 5 to 1. i set my 1 pin at its point blank rainge to where it is never higher nor lower than 3 inches i am good to 35 yards. since I generally take my game at less then 20 and i do not shoot in long range 3-d shoots I think this will help me. I wanted a set up that i could effectively shoot hogs in low light I have a hawg light mounted on it as well as a light for my pin. my l;ast bow hunt i missed a trophy boar at 18 yards a chip shot by any means as i used the wrong pin and it sailded right over his back. i was using a green one as my first then a red as my second a week before the hunt i switched them and could not see my pin in the green foliage since i was used to using my red pin up to a week before i instintively used the red hence the miss. now i have eliminated that problem and shoot very well on hog targets out to 40 yards with one pin i know that if a pig is bigger or smaller ill have to compinsate for the size let me know what ya think

how many use 1 pin on there sight for hunti

I thought about one pin, I don't like 5 but 3 suits me just fine. 20,30, and 40 yards. I just like knowing each pin has a value. :D

My bow came with a sightmaster crosshair with a fiberoptic center. I used a 3 pin setup on my old one & was going to swap the sights but I tried it first & glad I did. I hold dead on to a bit past 20, top 1/3 at 25 & put it on the deers back at 30. Works for me but I wont usually shoot at 30 yards. Do it every time in the backyard but not hunting yet. all mine been inside 25.

i use 2 pins.....im not shooting fast i use heavy aluminums (2216).

one pin for 20 yards n under....varys by 1 1/2 inches from 10 - 20 yards.

my other pin is 30 yard pin.....i use for over 25-35 yards...that varys by 2.5 inches......i wont shoot over 35 yards anymore....and very rarely over 30 with that bow.

i just dont wanna sit n decide over 3-5 colors of pins at the moment of truth....thats all..1 less thing to think about...lol

Mines set at 20 & I just put the crosshair on the deers back at 30. In between I use my own jusgement & beyond 30 I'll not likely shoot. Practice is the key & I like shooting my bow so I practice alot. I still shoot heavy aluminums too, 2219's on my primary bow.

One pin sounds great but in my case it just isn't accurate enough. My bow is fast but there still is too much differance in pin gap for me to feel good about it. it is tough enough for me to split pins on yardages other than what I have set but at least I have something to judge by. For me I guess I will stay with the same pins I've had for the last 25 yrs. I also set one for 10 yds right before season. I've needed it quite a few times. Try shooting at a target thats real close with even a 20 yd pin and before you know it you're High!

Guys: I`m reading all your comments and i`m thinking what would have been.
I`m from the old school and todays equipement is far superior then the stuff i used.
Red Wing Hunter, 47#, Recurve. Shot with a glove. Carried around a little pouch of talcome powder. Cedar shafts, 28" draw. Left handed to boot.
Used to pratice every night just before the deer season opened. Shot 50
shots into and old carpet i had stretched between two trees. Pinned balloons on it and if you didn`t hit-um right they`d just flick off to the side.
Also helped me to see which shafts were more accurate on a consistant
basis. As they were cedar i needed all the help i could get.
Had my shots over the years ...... they all died off old age. One thing for sure it made me a much better gun hunter, with out a doubt. As my
comfort zone was about 20yds i watched a lot more than i shot at.
Those experiences with a bow, waiting for the My shot, has instilled
a very important element to my gun game.....patience.
I know my comments have nothing to do with "pins" but nostalgia
got the best of me.

" The best part of the hunt is not the harvest but in the experience."

i use only 1 pin because two gets me in trouble in hunting situations...lol. with targets i have all my faculties and am not under presure and can think about which pin to use. with a good buck in front of me..its just 1 more thing to think about. my pin is set at 20 yards. on a 10 yard shot..i hold dead nuts from 10-25 yards with that pin....if its 30-40 yards i hold 6" high. i rarely shoot at animals even at 40 yards....but it works for me.
