Looking to build an old style African safari (looking anyway) Mauser 98 I bought some Buehler rings and base. But when they arrived I saw they were SPLIT rings, not the two separate halves, like I am used to ??? .

They have no real flex so how do I get a scope through those rings without ruining them?!?! They won't give enough for me to slide the windage and elevation turrets through on a 1.5 -4x Leupold, even.

The last time I had some of Mr. Buelher's rings they came apart with a screw driver, removing a screw in the top of the ring. Is there something filling the hole and hiding the screw head? There is also some shims between the two halves so you can adjust the amount of grip on the scope body.
