hey buddies, after much time and $$ I found a load MY standard brrl likes:
43gr(IMR4350)+ 80gr spitzer.. getting 3/4" groups(center to center) @ 125yds
FYI: my handi doesn't group as well with 100gr bullets which was my 1st choice when beginning this never-ending quest. tried 3 different powders of varied charge weights & none grouped as well as the 80's did. Research on the problem seems to suggest the 1-10" twist may not be enough spin to stabilize the longer 100gr spitzer. Sierra wants 1-9"(or faster) for the 105gr matchKing bullets..
I'm slightly dissapointed that the 80gr is so close to the 62gr that I shoot with the 223 but after reading on this forum how some 243 handi's WON'T SHOOT I'm just relieved to get tight groups

I have an Ultra Varmint in 243. I use IMR4350 and a 100 grain Hornady BTSP (#2453) in Winchester brass with a CCI200 primer. I can get 1/2" groups if I do my part. The big doe I harvested on Sunday never knew what hit her. Shot was approximately 140 yards slightly quartering toward me. I hit her in the right shoulder and the exit was about 2 or 3 ribs back on the opposite side. She went about 25 yards and dropped. Gotta love it!

well 85-95gr will be my next bullet purchase. gotta use up the 80's I have. maybe that Ultra shoots the 100's because of the longer brrl? / is IMR 4350 the same as H4350? burn rates are the same

IMR4350 and H4350 are right next to each other in powder burn rate, but they aren't the same. H4350 is an Extreme powder, and since Hodgdon owns IMR, I would think if they were the same, they would have dumped the IMR4350 as they have with H4227/IMR4227 which is the same powder now and is extreme. Looking at Hodgdon's 243 data, loads of each achieve different velocities at the same top pressures with ~2gr difference in the loads.
