Hello there fellow T/C enthusiasts.
This may have been covered before, but I probably missed it.
Could someone explain to me the differences and/or advantages of a Katahdin barrel over a standard barrel?
Other then the fact that they are shorter.

I think you answered your own question. They are shorter. The Pro Hunters are fluted, they are all heavy configurations, and they all have sights in addition to being drilled and tapped for scope bases. The originals were 18" and now all 20". I have heard a lot of discontent from the newer runs of barrels, via S&W. Anybody else?

Shorter and supposedly stiffer than the previous model. Not sure what you guys are trying to say. I put a 500 Smith barrel on My pro hunter last year and killed two bucks with it, this thing puts a ragged hole at 50 yes with 45 grains of H110 with a Barnes 275 XPB. I love it. Short and powerful
