[45carbine]

Sorry if this has been covered before but i am new to this site and haven't found the answer i am after in my searches.

I have just bought my fist handi the 45LC buffalo classic. I am really having some fun with it.

My question is to do with the locking mechanism of handi rifles. I have noticed that the locking leaver does not come all the way up when the action is closed. It seems to bite halfway along the lug on the barrel. (hope that makes sense)

When the locking lever is released without the barrel present it comes up a lot further.

Is this normal?

Will this eventually wear in like a double barrel locking divice seen on shotguns or should I grind the lug down so it travels the full distance over the barrel lug.

Would really like some advice on this

Hi Mike, welcome aboard! Your BC carbine is working normal, if you were to change the latch engagement so it engaged the entire latch shelf, the barrel would be loose with any wear, you can see proper latch engagement in the FAQs and Help sticky barrel fitting info. I wouldn't recommend you make any changes to the barrel as long as it's working fine, if there's a problem, H&R will fix it properly for you. their CS is second to none when it comes to repairing their products.

45carbine, dont worry, I just got my hornet barrel not long ago and i had the same prob. so, I got on here and started asking questions and turns out that its all good! My little hornet shoots like a dream too! Best wishes!

Thanks for the replies and welcome.
Yes had a bit of a learning curve when i first started shooting it. Closing it with a bit of force made a difference and I tidied up the latch a bit with a fine stone which all helped. Now I should be able to leave it alone and get back to sending big soft lead slugs down range.

Am having a bit of trouble with inconsistent accuracy, but have a few things to try (thanks to the FAQ).

Hank a 22 hornet sounds like a nice match for a single shot handi. I have had a lot of fun with a hornet, may go down that path again some time soon.
